The French Revolution was an event of great importance in the history of the world. The results of the French Revolution were far-reaching which are given below:
It introduced democratic ideas and led to the emergence of constitutional monarchy in many countries in place of absolute monarchy.
It awakened the spirit of nationalism. The term 'nation' got a new meaning. A nation is all about the people of a country who have a common history and a distinct feeling of oneness with the countrymen. The French Revolution played a key role in the birth of nationalism across Europe.
Ideology is the doctrine about the best form of social and political organization. The French Revolution established the ideals of liberty, equality, fraternity, and democracy. In fact, the term ideology was coined during the Revolution.
After the French Revolution, the government was not accepted as a legitimate government without justification. This led to the rise of a new democratic and social order in Europe. But how did it effect Indian constitution? The words like liberty, equality, fraternity are now included in the Preamble to the Indian Constitution.
After 1789, many changes were observed in the social, economic, political, and daily life of the people of France. Slaves in French colonies were set free. Books, newspapers, and plays could be published or performed without the approval of censors of the king.
The Spread of Liberalism: Liberalism is based on liberty and equality. Two events which marked the triumph of liberalism were Abolition of feudalism in France on 4th August 1789 and the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen in August 1789.
