What is a Thunderstorm?

 

In tropical areas like India, where there is a hot and humid climate, thunderstorms are frequently seen. Thunderstorms occur due to the convection of air. As the temperature is very high here, the rising temperature in such places produces upward rising winds. The rising air carries water vapor with it. At a certain height, the water vapor freezes and falls down again as rain. Let's understand what is thunderstorm.

 

The swift movement of the falling water droplets along with the rising air creates lighting and sound. This event is well known as Thunderstorm. Thunderstorms are one of the most thrilling and dangerous types of weather phenomena. Over 40,000 thunderstorms occur throughout the world each day.

 

Thunderstorm - Precautions

 

Now that you have learned what is thunderstorm, it's time to learn how to stay safe during thunderstorms. You enjoy the sound of the storm. It�s thrilling. But if a storm is accompanied by lightning, you must take some precautions.

 

  1. Never take shelter under an isolated tree.
  2. If you are in a forest take shelter under a small tree and remember, never lie on the ground.
  3. If your umbrella is with a metallic end, avoid taking shelter under it. As metal sheds are not safe to take shelter, do not sit near a window with a metal rod.
  4. Avoid open garages and storage sheds too.
  5. A car or a bus or any closed vehicle is safe to take shelter. Your house is safe but avoids open buildings.
  6. If you are in the water, get out and reach another safe place.
