What are Interest Groups?

 

An interest group is a group that seeks to encourage or prevent changes in the country's policies without getting elected. They either work to promote a particular policy of the government or protest against the policy of the government depending on their interests. Thus pressure groups or interest groups are those that represent the interest of a particular section of society.

 

For example, An interest group might be one that promotes the interest of a certain caste or group. Their main aim is the well-being of their group and is not concerned with the outside.

A public interest group is a group that promotes the interest of the people of the society. These interests can be of a particular section of the society or of the entire society in general. Their activities benefit the entire society and not just a particular section of society.

 

For example, a public interest group like India against corruption is one such group that is fighting corruption, which is an evil that has been severely inflicted in society.
